Douglas County Forest Products is an independently owned sawmill located in the scenic Umpqua Valley, near Roseburg, Oregon, on the I-5 corridor. Our mission statement is, simply, A Commitment to Quality. We're not big, and we don't have extravagant offices. However, we do have a state-of-the-art sawmill, commitment to quality, and hard working employees dedicated to getting the job done right.

A commitment to quality means that in the highly competitive business of saw milling, we've got to stay a step ahead of the competition. Complacency has no place at Douglas County Forest Products. Continual improvement is paramount to our continued success. Of course, there is no greater measurement of success than the success of our customers.

Sustainable Forestry: Douglas County Forest Products is committed to forestry practices that ensure the sustainability of raw material production, while providing the highest level of protection for water quality, soils, fish and wildlife habitat and diversity, and aesthetics.

Douglas County Forest Products achieves its mission statement by:

- Practicing and abiding by the Oregon Forest Practices (OFP)
- Ensure that 35% of the annual log supply comes from government timber sale contracts
- Maintaining certification and membership in the Associated Oregon Logger (AOL)

The Oregon Forest Practices Act, enacted in 1971, is a continuously evolving set of rules and guidelines that must be followed when harvesting timber. The OFP require that the timber owner: obtain permits before harvesting, reforest within 2 years of harvesting, provide comprehensive riparian protection, maintain soil productivity, minimize road impacts, and protect habitat and diversity. Douglas County Forest Products maintains strict compliance with the Oregon Forest Practices.

In 2005, Douglas County Forest Products initiated a government timber sale program within the Timber Department. Under the program, 35% of the annual log flow must come from government timber sale contracts, which include Density Management and Commercial Thinnings. The contracts, under the Bureau of Land Management, the Oregon Department of Forestry, and the Forest Service, are subject to their own stringent forest practices. Government timber sale contracts are strictly regulated and monitored by both the general public and the respective government agency.

The Associated Oregon Loggers is a trade organization founded in 1969 to provide business services to contract logging firms and related businesses. Within the AOL is the Oregon Professional Logger program which requires annual training for the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Under the Initiative, all field employees must complete the Sustainable Forestry Training for Logging Operators program annually.

Commitment to Safety Douglas County Forest Products is committed to providing a safe place for employees to work. As part of that commitment, the company has bee been a member of the Oregon Sharp Program for over four years.
